In a surprising partnership that defies usual predictions, Ubisoft has announced an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, including complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Revealed

According to the authorized statement, "A mysterious meeting draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh mission, where hints of forbidden practices and fearsome transformations reverberate through the darkness." The storyline features a "unusually dressed woman named Ada" who assigns the pair with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a important location from Attack on Titan—to save her companion from a secret group.

The mission focuses on "bizarre tests and a fearsome enemy" and is available to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Familiar Locations and Changes

The preview features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was previously where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The preview finishes with a powerful sequence showing a character, likely the captive, changing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Prizes and Extra Material

Players who successfully complete the adventure will receive an unique katana alongside multiple items hidden throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also includes purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Titan-inspired attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa outfit for Naoe
• Special arms
• Survey Corps vehicle

Third Free Story Addition

This update also brings the game's third complimentary story addition, titled "The Mystery." This playful mission teams Naoe and Yasuke as they trade distinctive skills: Naoe reveals a dramatic interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters non-fatal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Enigma" also features a original environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

Past Japanese Animation Partnerships

This represents hardly the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime series. The series previously showcased a 2020 crossover story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla unofficially included a quest that unmistakably echoed the well-known series One-Punch Man.
