The second-hand marketplace Users Share Anger Over Size Modifications

Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.

This online marketplace has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's garments but did not contact all users about the change.

Social Media Reaction

Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.

Vinted explained the new system was more in line with other platforms.

It has advised users to review their products and update the measurements by hand when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.

Size Classification Changes

Before the change, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.

The new system has a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.

In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.

Shopper Experiences

A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".

"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.

A different member, from Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.

"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.

Manual Updates

A different user, from Derby, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizes on "every single listing".

"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she explained.

Service Background

The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.

It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.

This represents another occasion that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: last year, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
